Let's explore the fascinating world of spirulina, a unique cyanobacterium thriving in warm, alkaline waters, often called blue-green algae.
Despite its small size, spirulina is brimming with essential nutrients, including a diverse array of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and protein, making it a highly sought-after addition to your daily dietary routine, especially when incorporated into your favourite juices.
Spirulina has a rich and storied history dating back to ancient civilisations like the Aztecs and African tribes, where its remarkable nutritional benefits were revered. Initially harvested from natural water bodies, modern cultivation methods have evolved to include controlled environments such as tanks or ponds, ensuring optimal growth conditions for this nutritional powerhouse.
Cultivating spirulina involves meticulously replicating its natural habitat, maintaining warm temperatures, ample sunlight, and a pH level between 8.0 and 11.0. This eco-friendly approach requires minimal land and water compared to traditional farming methods. After harvesting, spirulina undergoes meticulous filtration, drying, and processing before seamlessly integrating into your favourite juice blends.
Let's delve into spirulina's extensive nutritional benefits to your juice, enriching it with a wide array of health-enhancing components.
Spirulina boasts an impressive protein profile, providing all nine essential amino acids crucial for muscle recovery, immune system support, and overall health. By incorporating spirulina into your juice, you're not just boosting its protein content; you're also ensuring that your body receives a complete and balanced supply of essential nutrients.
In addition to its protein prowess, spirulina is a rich source of essential vitamins and minerals, enriching your juice with many micronutrients vital for optimal health and vitality. Spirulina is particularly notable for its abundance of B vitamins, including vitamin B12—a nutrient often lacking in plant-based diets yet essential for nerve function, red blood cell production, and energy metabolism.
Moreover, spirulina delivers a significant dose of iron for oxygen transport, calcium for bone and muscle health, magnesium for enzymatic reactions, and potassium for fluid balance and blood pressure regulation. These micronutrients play pivotal roles in sustaining various bodily functions, ensuring that your juice not only tantalises your taste buds but also nourishes your body from within.
But the benefits don't stop there—spirulina also provides your juice with a wealth of essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). These fatty acids are powerful allies in promoting cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and inflammation management, offering many benefits for your overall well-being.
By infusing your juice with spirulina, you're infusing it with these invaluable fats, which not only support heart health by reducing cholesterol levels and triglycerides but also enhance cognitive function by fostering neuronal communication and neurotransmitter synthesis. Additionally, the anti-inflammatory properties of GLA present in spirulina provide further relief from chronic inflammatory conditions, making it an indispensable asset in your journey toward vitality and well-being.
Incorporating spirulina into your juice not only enhances its colour with a vibrant green hue but also boosts its health benefits, aiding in detoxification, immune support, and energy levels. This superfood addition promises a refreshing taste with a nutritional kick, making your juice a perfect blend of flavour and wellness. Embrace spirulina to turn your daily juice ritual into an invigorating, healthful journey, redefining the essence of a nourishing drink.
For athletes striving for peak performance, spirulina emerges as an unparalleled superfood ally. Its dense nutritional profile offers a sustained energy boost, essential for rigorous training and competition. The high protein content in spirulina aids in muscle repair and growth, vital for athletes recovering from intense workouts. Furthermore, its rich assortment of vitamins and minerals supports endurance, reduces fatigue, and enhances overall physical performance. The antioxidant properties of spirulina also play a crucial role in combating oxidative stress, a common challenge faced by athletes during prolonged physical exertion. By integrating spirulina into their nutritional regimen, athletes can harness its benefits to optimise performance, accelerate recovery, and maintain an edge in their respective sports.
While spirulina is a potent superfood, moderation is key to avoiding potential adverse effects. Overconsumption of spirulina may lead to an excess intake of certain nutrients, causing imbalances or health issues. For instance, high levels of iodine in spirulina can affect thyroid function, particularly in individuals with existing thyroid conditions. Additionally, consuming spirulina in large amounts might lead to gastrointestinal discomfort, including bloating, cramps, or nausea. There's also a risk of contamination with toxic substances if spirulina is sourced from unregulated environments, potentially leading to heavy metal poisoning. To mitigate these risks, it's essential to source spirulina from reputable suppliers, adhere to recommended dosages, and consult a healthcare professional, especially those with pre-existing health conditions or dietary restrictions. When used wisely, Spirulina can be a beneficial addition to a balanced diet, but its overuse could offset its nutritional advantages.
Embark on a delightful culinary adventure by incorporating spirulina into your juice to elevate its flavour and nutritional profile. Start with just a teaspoon of spirulina in your freshly made juice and adjust according to your taste preferences and dietary needs. With spirulina, you're not just creating juice; you're crafting a revitalising and nourishing elixir that fuels your body and invigorates your senses.
The MOD Cold Press Juicer is engineered to extract the maximum amount of juice from fruits and vegetables, preserving the delicate enzymes and nutrients. This makes it an excellent tool for those looking to incorporate spirulina into their juices. You can juice your preferred produce and then whisk in a teaspoon of spirulina powder into the juice. ]]>Juicing is a fantastic way to boost your daily nutrient intake and enjoy a refreshing beverage, but it doesn't have to break the bank. In Australia, where the cost of living can be high, it's essential to find budget-friendly ingredients for your homemade juices. This blog will guide you through the art of juicing on a budget, focusing on affordable ingredients that are readily available.
One of the easiest ways to save money on juicing is by selecting seasonal produce. Seasonal fruits and vegetables are not only fresher but also more affordable since they are in abundance. In Australia, this means enjoying juicy watermelons and berries in summer, citrus fruits in winter, and a variety of vegetables like carrots and cucumbers year-round.
Visiting your local farmers' market is an excellent way to find fresh, locally grown produce at competitive prices. You'll often discover deals on fruits and vegetables that are in-season and sourced directly from local farmers. These markets can also be a fun and vibrant place to explore, making the shopping experience enjoyable.
Consider buying fruits and vegetables in bulk, especially when they are on sale or in season. You can freeze excess produce to use later, ensuring that you always have a variety of ingredients on hand for your juices. Stock up on staples like carrots, apples, and oranges, which have a longer shelf life.
To make your juices more filling and cost-effective, use affordable base ingredients like:
Don't underestimate the power of frozen fruits and vegetables. They are often more affordable than fresh counterparts and can be just as nutritious. Frozen berries, spinach, and mixed fruit blends can be thawed and added to your juicing repertoire without breaking the bank.
Minimise waste by using every part of your ingredients. For example, you can use citrus peels and zest for added flavour, and leftover pulp can be used in recipes for muffins, soups, or smoothies. This way, you get the most value out of your produce.
Experiment with different combinations to create cost-effective, delicious juices. A simple yet tasty blend includes carrots, apples, and a hint of ginger. This combination is both budget-friendly and packed with nutrients.
After juicing, don't discard the pulp. It's full of fibre and nutrients. Consider adding it to soups, stews, or homemade veggie burgers to reduce food waste and maximise your investment in produce.
Juicing on a budget in Australia is entirely achievable with a little creativity and planning. By choosing seasonal produce, shopping at local farmers' markets, buying in bulk, and incorporating budget-friendly ingredients, you can enjoy delicious, nutritious juices without straining your wallet. Remember to reduce waste, explore DIY combinations, and find innovative ways to use juice pulp to make the most of your ingredients and your budget. Happy juicing!

]]>In a world where busy lifestyles often take center stage, health concerns like inflammation might not receive the attention they deserve. Inflammation, while a natural response to injury or infection, can turn chronic and lead to a range of health problems, including cardiovascular issues, joint pain, and more. However, taking charge of your health is easier than you might think. One delicious and natural approach to combating inflammation is through the power of juicing. This blog will guide you through the journey of understanding inflammation, exploring anti-inflammatory nutrients, and creating tailored juice recipes that not only taste great but also provide your body with the support it needs to reduce inflammation.
Understanding Inflammation and its Impact: Before we delve into the world of anti-inflammatory juices, let's grasp the concept of inflammation and its impact on our well-being. Inflammation is the body's defense mechanism against harmful stimuli, such as pathogens, damaged cells, or irritants. While acute inflammation serves a vital purpose in healing, chronic inflammation can become problematic. It's often considered a silent contributor to numerous health issues, including autoimmune diseases, obesity, and even cancer. Managing inflammation through dietary choices is a proactive step towards overall health and wellness.
Anti-Inflammatory Nutrients: Now, let's explore the superheroes of our story - anti-inflammatory nutrients. Certain fruits and vegetables are rich in compounds that have been scientifically proven to combat inflammation. These include antioxidants, which neutralize harmful free radicals, polyphenols that modulate the immune response, and omega-3 fatty acids that reduce inflammation at a cellular level. By incorporating these nutrients into your diet, you can give your body the tools it needs to fight inflammation naturally.
Creating Anti-Inflammatory Juice Recipes: One of the most effective and enjoyable ways to consume these anti-inflammatory nutrients is through juicing. Juicing allows you to combine a variety of ingredients that work synergistically to deliver a concentrated dose of health-boosting compounds. The recipes we'll share not only prioritize anti-inflammatory ingredients but also offer a delightful array of flavors that will leave your taste buds satisfied.
Turmeric and Ginger Elixirs: Turmeric and ginger are two potent anti-inflammatory ingredients that have been used in traditional medicine for centuries. Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory effects. Combining it with ginger, which contains gingerol, creates a dynamic duo that can help reduce inflammation and provide a boost to your immune system. Try starting your day with a turmeric and ginger elixir (with added cucumber and apple for hydration and anti-oxidants)
Incorporating Omega-3s: Omega-3 fatty acids are another essential tool in the fight against inflammation. They play a crucial role in reducing inflammation at a cellular level, contributing to overall wellness. Chia seeds and flaxseeds are excellent sources of omega-3s that can be seamlessly incorporated into your juicing regimen. Here's a recipe that combines these nutritional powerhouses:
Leafy Greens for Alkalinity: Creating an alkaline environment in your body can also help counter inflammation. Leafy greens like kale and spinach are rich in alkalizing minerals and can contribute to rebalancing your body's pH levels. Try this alkalizing green juice for a refreshing and anti-inflammatory start to your day:
Berries and Citrus Fruits: Berries and citrus fruits are not only delicious but also loaded with vitamin C and flavonoids that possess potent anti-inflammatory properties. Incorporating these fruits into your juices can provide an extra layer of protection against inflammation. Here's a berry-citrus blend that's bursting with flavor and health benefits:
Consistency and Long-Term Benefits: While the concept of anti-inflammatory juices might seem like a quick fix, it's essential to approach it with a long-term perspective. Consistency is key when it comes to reaping the benefits of these nutrient-packed beverages. Incorporating anti-inflammatory juices into your daily routine can gradually contribute to reducing inflammation and supporting your overall health.
Consultation with Healthcare Professionals: While adopting an anti-inflammatory juicing regimen can have numerous benefits, it's crucial to remember that individual health needs can vary. If you have existing health conditions or concerns, it's recommended to consult with healthcare professionals before making significant dietary changes.
In a world where health trends come and go, the power of nature remains a constant. Anti-inflammatory juicing harnesses the potential of natural ingredients to combat inflammation and promote well-being. By understanding the impact of inflammation, exploring the benefits of anti-inflammatory nutrients, and experimenting with tailored juice recipes, you're taking a proactive step towards optimal health. Embrace the journey of reducing inflammation naturally and enjoy the delicious rewards it brings.

]]>Why cold pressed?
Cold pressed juices have grown in popularity over the past couple of years, and rightly so. They taste amazing, have far more vitamins and minerals than conventional juices and represent one of the easiest ways for your body to absorb nutrients. They can help us to manage our weight, to detoxify and to cleanse. They also fit neatly into even the busiest of lifestyles, and can tempt the pickiest of palates.
For many of us, enjoying foods and activities that promote our wellness is a priority, and one we are willing to invest in. But could you possibly be saving money, without compromising - and perhaps even improving - your health?
To find out, we calculated the cost of cafe or juice bar bought juice compared to buying your own cold press juicer.
Buy or DIY
Buy:
On average, a cold press juice purchased from a cafe or juice bar is around $11. This is based on looking at price of juice bars across the major Australian cities.
Let's imagine you are buying a $11 juice, 5 days a week, that amounts to 260 juices a year, or $2860!
DIY:
Let's compare this cost to juicing at home. Your investment here is a once of purchase of your MOD, (currently on sale at $479 AUD), plus the cost of your produce for 5 days at around around $3.50 per juice (for instance, a cucumber, 2 carrots, an apple, a small piece of ginger came to around $3.50 in our local grocery store). This amounts to $910.
Juicer ($479) + produce ($910) = $1389.
So, on average you would be saving over $1471 for the first year if you make your own cold pressed juice 5 days a week, rather than buying it! Plus you own your juicer! Each subsequent year, you would save $1950! Talk about serious savings.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other benefits of DIY?
Having a juicer at home has the added benefits of being able to make your own nut milks and sorbets too. Plus, you can reuse the pulp in a range of recipes, and you are not contributing to our already huge packaging problem by using your own glass at home, not a plastic cup.
In addition to saving this hefty sum, juicing at home allows you to take full control over the quality of your produce, your recipes, your ingredients - all when YOU want it. Only like to shop organic or local? Hate beetroot? Allergic to ginger? Want to start a detox IMMEDIATELY after a rather big weekend? All totally doable with MOD. Not only that, with your own MOD, you can also make your own healthy, refined sugar free sorbets!
MOD empowers you to take full control of your juice, and your health.
So what are you waiting for?

]]>When it comes to extracting the goodness of fruits and vegetables, two popular methods stand out: juicing and blending. Both juicers and blenders offer unique ways to incorporate nutrient-rich ingredients into your daily routine. In this blog post, we will delve into the differences between juicing and blending, and highlight the various benefits each method offers. Whether you're seeking a refreshing juice or a hearty smoothie, MOD Appliances has got you covered with the MOD Cold Press Juicer and MOD Blend Pro.
Juicing involves extracting the liquid content from fruits and vegetables while leaving behind the fibrous pulp. Here are the key benefits of juicing:
a. Nutrient Concentration: Juicing provides a concentrated source of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients as the process separates the juice from the fibrous pulp, allowing for quick absorption by the body.
b. Increased Nutrient Variety: By juicing a variety of fruits and vegetables, you can create vibrant and nutrient-packed blends that may not be as easily consumed in their whole form.
c. Quick and Refreshing: Juices are a fantastic way to hydrate your body and provide a refreshing burst of flavours, making them an ideal choice for a quick energy boost or a post-workout drink.
Blending involves blending whole fruits and vegetables, incorporating both the liquid and fibre-rich components into a smoothie-like consistency. Let's explore the advantages of blending:
a. Fibre Powerhouse: Unlike juicing, blending retains the fibre content of fruits and vegetables, providing a host of benefits such as improved digestion, enhanced satiety, and stable blood sugar levels.
b. Balanced Energy Release: The presence of fibre in blended smoothies helps slow down the digestion process, resulting in a steady release of energy and preventing blood sugar spikes.
c. Versatile Culinary Creativity: Blending offers endless possibilities for customisation. You can add ingredients like nuts, seeds, yoghurt, and protein powders to create smoothies that cater to your individual taste preferences and nutritional needs.
While juicing and blending have their unique strengths, incorporating both methods into your routine can provide a well-rounded approach to nutrition:
a. Amplifying Nutrient Absorption: By consuming freshly juiced fruits and vegetables, you can kickstart your day with a concentrated dose of essential nutrients. Later on, incorporating fibre-rich blended smoothies can help slow down digestion and enhance nutrient absorption.
b. Waste Reduction: Utilising the fibrous pulp leftover from juicing in blended smoothies can reduce food waste and ensure you reap the benefits of both methods.
c. Culinary Experimentation: Combining juices and smoothies opens up a world of possibilities. You can mix and match flavours, textures, and nutrient profiles to create delightful concoctions that satisfy your taste buds and nourish your body.
Conclusion:
Whether you choose to embrace the purity of juicing or savour the fibre-rich goodness of blending, both methods offer remarkable health benefits. Juicing provides concentrated nutrients and quick absorption, while blending retains fibre for sustained energy release and improved digestion. By incorporating both juicing and blending into your routine, you can enjoy a diverse array of flavours, textures, and nutritional benefits. Explore the world of juicing and blending with MOD Appliances' MOD Cold Press Juicer and MOD Blend Pro, and elevate your wellness journey to new heights.

]]>Juicing has become increasingly popular in recent years as a way to boost nutrient intake and improve overall health. While many people juice for weight loss or to increase energy levels, juicing can also have a positive impact on digestion. In this blog post, we will explore the benefits of juicing for digestion and why it may be worth adding to your daily routine.
Juicing removes the fibre from fruits and vegetables, making it easier for your body to absorb nutrients. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with digestive issues or those who struggle to eat enough fruits and vegetables in their diet. By juicing, you can increase your intake of essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are crucial for optimal digestive health.
Juicing can also promote gut health by introducing beneficial bacteria to your digestive system. Certain fruits and vegetables such as kale, spinach, and carrots contain prebiotics that serve as food for the good bacteria in your gut. These bacteria can help break down food and improve digestion, leading to fewer digestive issues such as bloating, gas, and constipation.
Inflammation is a common cause of digestive issues, and certain foods can exacerbate this inflammation. Juicing with anti-inflammatory ingredients such as ginger, turmeric, and leafy greens can help reduce inflammation in the gut, leading to improved digestion.
Many people struggle to drink enough water throughout the day, which can lead to dehydration and digestive issues. Juicing with water-rich fruits and vegetables such as cucumber, celery, and watermelon can help keep you hydrated and improve digestive function.
Juicing can also serve as a gentle cleanse for the digestive system. By removing toxins and waste from the body, juicing can improve overall digestive function and reduce symptoms such as bloating and constipation.
In conclusion, juicing can have many benefits for digestive health, including improved nutrient absorption, gut health, reduced inflammation, hydration, and gentle cleansing of the digestive system. Incorporating fresh juices into your daily routine can help improve overall digestive function and lead to a healthier, happier you.

]]>Juicing is not just a fad but a lifestyle that promotes overall wellness, including gut health. Juicing is an excellent way to increase your daily intake of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, all of which play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy gut. By juicing, you can also consume a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, which is important for gut health as well. In this blog, we'll explore how juicing can boost your gut health and share three delicious juicing recipes that can help support your digestive system.
The digestive system is responsible for breaking down the food we eat into nutrients that the body can use. An unhealthy gut can lead to several health problems, including inflammation, bloating, and even disease. Juicing can help improve gut health by:
a) Increasing the consumption of vitamins and minerals: Fruits and vegetables contain vitamins and minerals that are essential for digestive health. By juicing, you can consume a more significant amount of these nutrients than you would by eating them whole.
b) Improving digestion: Juicing breaks down fruits and vegetables into easily digestible components, making it easier for your digestive system to absorb nutrients.
c) Providing fiber: Although juicing removes the pulp and fiber, you can still add some of the pulp back into the juice to get some fiber. Fiber is essential for promoting gut health by feeding the good bacteria in your gut.
a) Green Machine Juice: This juice is packed with leafy greens that are rich in vitamins A and C, essential for gut health.
Ingredients:
Directions:
b) Pineapple Ginger Turmeric Juice: This juice is anti-inflammatory and aids digestion, thanks to the powerful combination of turmeric and ginger.

c) Carrot-Apple-Beet Juice: This juice is packed with vitamins and minerals that are essential for gut health.

Directions:
Wash all the ingredients and chop them into small pieces.
Add all the ingredients to your juicer and blend until smooth.
Pour into a glass and enjoy!
Conclusion
In conclusion, juicing is an excellent way to improve your gut health. By incorporating juicing into your daily routine, you can increase your consumption of essential vitamins and minerals, improve digestion, and provide your body with the fiber it needs to feed the good bacteria in your gut. There are many factors that influence our overall immunity. Genetics and gut health play a large role, as do lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise habits.
Sleep, stress-levels and even the type of job we have can play a role! Our individual immunity will also vary over time with lifestyle, age and following events such as illnesses.
While we can’t control all of the above factors, the good news is that there is plenty we can do to be proactive.
Absolutely! While we want to steer clear of false promises, there are many ways in which we can improve our overall health and boost immunity.
*Harvard Health Publishing advises that factors such as managing stress, getting plenty of sleep, exercising regularly and enjoying a healthy, balanced diet can all support a healthy immune system. More on this below!
When we make a choice to make a change in this space, the bonus is that we often enjoy the benefits of feeling better too.
How can we increase our immunity?
The immune system is complex, so there are many areas that influence immunity! Let’s go through them.
Lifestyle
Stress and tension this one may come as a surprise, but prolonged or excessive stress can restrict the absorption of nutrients and trigger hormones that suppress our immune system.
If you know your stress levels are higher than they should be, our suggestion is to focus on what you can do in this space! And if you needed an excuse to invest in a mindful activity such as meditation, yoga or even healthy ‘you-time’ pursuits, know that reducing your stress levels is helping your immunity too.
Smoking if you’re a smoker, we know you’ve probably heard it all! But yes, tobacco can have a suppressive effect on the body's immune system too.
Alcohol is also linked with lowering the body’s immune response, so depending on your weekly intake you may choose to minimise, especially if you are run down.
May we recommend a delicious mock-tail with cold press juice instead? Tis Christmas in July with this one! Apple & Beetroot: Christmas Mock-tail
Diet
Healthy and well balanced - the old adage! Variety is key, so aim for a range of fresh veggies, fruits, proteins and nuts. Vitamins associated with immunity include (A, B group, C, D, E), and Minerals (Zinc, Selenium, and Iron). Where will you find these?
Vegetables Shocking, we know! But your body will love you for adding more veggies, with green leaves at the top of the list. Think kale, spinach, cabbage, beet greens, and lettuce.
Check out this Healthline article of The 13 Healthiest Leafy Green Vegetables for more varieties and the nitty gritty of what makes these veggies so great. **Celery, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots and capsicum are all beneficial too.
Fruits such as citrus (lemons, lime, orange, grapefruit) are recommended as well as berries, papaya, kiwi and watermelon.
Proteins such as fish, soy, eggs.
Beneficial, natural sweeteners include unrefined cane sugar (jaggery) and honey
Sleep
This Sleep Foundation article advises that adults (between 26 - 64 years) generally need between 7-9 hours of sleep. This is how we end up with the general recommendation of 8 hours! Everyone is different, and our sleep needs do vary during different life stages.
Sleep is the time our body repairs, builds resilience and manages inflammation, making sleep a crucial role in our immune response. The Sleep Foundation cover the benefits of sound sleep to the immune system in their article How Sleep Affects Immunity.
Physical Exercise
*Harvard Health describes exercise as a pillar of healthy living and regular movement will support your overall health and immunity.
Remember that any movement is helpful! If you’re not where you’d like to be, start from where you are and think about ways you enjoy to move. Gym isn't the only option either - you can walk, dance, swim or yoga your way to well-being.
At MOD, we believe that a holistic approach is the best way to set yourself up for success. However, we are also very mindful of keeping things realistic - after all, achievable goals are the ones that get done!
There can be a lot of pressure to get everything right in life - managing work, others that depend on you and whatever life throws up is a very real challenge for most of us.
Right now, if you only have the capacity to focus on one or two health factors, it is absolutely worth doing whatever you are able to at this time.
You may even find that the initial changes you make help you feel better able to take on other areas in due course! A happy health-cycle, if you will.
Small changes, big wins
Maybe instead of an ‘all or nothing’ approach, you increase the number of home made, healthy balanced meals you eat each week.
You could introduce more incidental exercises such as stairs instead of the elevator, a few walks or yoga sessions per week as a starting point for fitness.
For sleep, it may simply be a case of deciding to go to bed earlier, or it may be more complex if you have young ones, shift work or sleep disturbances. This article by the Sleep Foundation on Sleep Hygiene has some great tips!
It’s your journey
Wherever you’re at, the key is to take it bit by bit and day by day. Immunity, good health, and well-being are a lifelong journey, not a race.
We encourage you to applaud yourself for the areas you are doing well in and be compassionate about areas that will benefit from improvement, when you are ready.
Be good to you and enjoy the journey!

Our MOD Cold Press Juicer comes with a sorbet attachment. Here's our complete guide to making your own simple & healthy homemade sorbet using our juicer.
If you purchased a MOD Cold Press and stashed this part away after unboxing - it happens! We speak to a lot of customers who have purchased a MOD Cold Press Juicer who regularly make various kinds of juice, however they may not have yet gotten around to testing out a healthy fruit sorbet.
A far healthier alternative to ice cream, customers who do use their juicer to make sorbet regularly would say others are missing out! So when you’re ready, initiate a search of your most likely kitchen cupboards and find out what else your MOD can do. This nifty attachment can also be used to make a dip like hummus, or easily puree baby food for your little one!
For more inspo, check out this article to learn how to use your MOD Cold Press to make baby food!
Making all-natural sorbet in your juicer is super easy! You can watch a quick demo of MasterChef Australia Finalist Tim Bone demonstrating how to make sorbet here or find steps below.
You can also find inspiration in the Juicing Handbook and instructions on page 15 of your MOD Cold Press Manual!
There’s an easy answer to that - yes it is! Homemade sorbet is whole fruit that has been cut, frozen and then combined in a device such as your MOD Cold Press or MOD Blend Pro, while remaining frozen (but slightly softened through the process). It is a whole food and can therefore be vegan if no animal products (such as frozen yoghurt) are added.
Fresh sorbet is generally best consumed straight after being prepared. Making sorbet at home is super easy, and you control exactly what goes into it! Get creative. Any fruit can lend itself to sorbet. Softer, creamier and sweeter ones like banana and mango can sweeten tarter fruits such as berries that are a little unripe.
You can add in some frozen yoghurt or drizzle in a natural sweetener if you wish such as maple syrup or honey. We believe that for the most part, ripe fruits well combined don’t need anything extra! Remember that as this is a ‘whole’ process, your juicer wont separate pulp from juice so remove anything you don’t want in your end product, such as citrus skins and pith or pips.
Check out our delicious lemon strawberry sorbet recipe for inspiration. Other favourite flavor combinations we've tested include: banana and mango, mango and raspberry, banana and blueberry, mango with kiwi and1/4 lime, watermelon and a small handful of mint strawberry and lemon.
]]>You can use your sorbet attachment to make not only homemade sorbet, but baby food puree as well. Our method for making pureed baby food is essentially the same as sorbet which is simply prepared, frozen whole fruits that are combined by the juicer while still in a mostly frozen state. The result is a sweet frozen treat that is super healthy and delicious!
Parenting hack #1 - This 'sorbet' is also a great snack to feed a toddler who is teething - nutrients, fibre and gum-soothing all-in-one!
Parenting hack #2 - If your child is younger and still on pureed foods, you can also use the sorbet attachment to make puree with fresh cooked veggies or fruit!
You can watch a quick demo of MasterChef Australia Finalist Tim Bone demonstrating how to make sorbet here:
The process is exactly the same for puree, except you’ll be using your prepared (unfrozen) ingredients. For details of how to assemble your juicer using the sorbet attachment and inspiration you can check out this article. You can also find inspiration in the Juicing Handbook and instructions on page 15 of your MOD Cold Press Manual.
You sure can! Make the most of your juicer when it’s in use, before or after juicing. Simply swap out the strainer (and black basket) for the sorbet strainer! After removing the pulp tab completely from the base of the juicer bowl (remember to pop it off the screw completely!), reassemble your juicer as normal. Put through any pre-cooked veggies you normally use (unfrozen).
The juicer will process everything together and give you a super smooth result. You can prepare in bulk, freezing smaller portions if you wish. Please follow professional advice regarding the types of produce and additions appropriate for your child and how to pre-cook, especially for infants.
*WebMD advise that babies can be offered solid food from around 6 months and suggest avoiding honey and added sugar.
In much the same way, you can use frozen produce to make an all-natural sorbet. This healthy and delicious snack will also help soothe angry gums! Kids often love to be part of the juicing or sorbet process too, with supervision of course. Fruit goes in, good stuff comes out! Again, please follow any professional advice regarding preparation. Frozen banana, watermelon and mango are sweet, natural and soothing.

]]>For starters, making the juice in itself is an easy and tasty way of getting much needed fruits and vegetables into our children’s diets! One of my children is somewhat a bit fussier than the other so being able to incorporate all types of produce into our juice is a great way of ensuring she still gets nutrients she would otherwise turn away at the dinner table.
Popular mixes for us are Apple, Beetroot and Carrot (we call this our ABC juice!) along with additions of celery, oranges, ginger and kale. It was a bit of trial and error with the celery and kale but I’ve found that adding in apple with these helps to sweeten the taste – much to my daughters (and my) delight.
Veggie Pattie Burgers (using carrot, beetroot & celery pulp). We’ve made spaghetti bolognaise and lasagne using our carrot and celery pulp– just add in some fresh spinach to the meat sauce to boost the (hidden) veggie intake.
Also, a new one we have tried recently is pork meatballs with apple & celery pulp which has also gone down a treat – tastes great with a tomato based sauce and pasta or can serve with steamed vegetable and mashed potato.
Fruit pulp is really easy to use up along with carrot & beetroot – muffins, slices, crumble all make up really well using the pulp. The pulp can be used for most sweet recipes either on its own or to bulk up your recipe if your running low on anything. Our go-to’s are fruit pulp muffins – we split the mixture into regular muffin tins, then the rest goes into mini muffin tins for the children. For an extra treat we dust them with a bit of icing sugar! In summer – using our MOD Icy Pole Molds was a tasty and fun way of using our juicer. The set can hold up to 10 Icy Poles so are great to have in the freezer and pull out when the weather is warm! Coming into the cooler months – I’ll also be using our leftover vegetable pulp in soups, stocks and stews for the extra flavour and texture.

Sometimes winter visits early – especially further south. If you’re feeling the chill, try this Winter Warming Soup. With just a handful of ingredients, this soup is easy to whip up and not only will it warm your soul, it will fill you with a range of important vitamins and minerals.
Start your Easter celebrations off right with this Easter-inspired carrot juice. Carrots are a powerhouse vegetable that will help your body cut through the increased intake of sugar. They are loaded with vitamin A and beta-carotene which can lower your risk of diabetes while the calcium and vitamin K can strengthen and maintain good overall bone health.
French toast does not have to be an unhealthy indulgence. You can satisfy your sweet tooth and still eat a meal that is refined sugar free and has a healthy serve of protein, vitamin C, antioxidants and whole grains with our Orange Spiced French Toast Recipe! Using oranges instead of milk also makes this a dairy free breakfast. Typically 2-3 oranges will produce one cup of juice, but feel free to juice extra and serve the breakfast alongside a glass of freshly made orange juice!]]>
You can skip the candied carrot and dust with icing sugar when cool as a simpler option too. Or opt for a traditional cream cheese icing - whatever you prefer. You can use fresh pulp (kept in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days after juicing) or even freeze the pulp to thaw before baking. I will also use pulp where I have added orange and/or ginger in with the carrot - these add very complimentary flavours!
Bonus Tip: You may want to remove the skin of the ginger and pith from the orange more carefully than you might normally if you intend to save it for cake. If adding ginger pulp, go easy on adding additional ginger powder to the recipe too.
Enjoy! Team MOD x
